How to Improve Your Productivity as a High-Income Business Founder

As a high-income business founder, you know that time is your most valuable asset. You have a lot to get done, and you need to make sure that you're using your time wisely.

But if you're like most founders, you probably feel like you're constantly running out of time. You're always juggling multiple tasks, and it can be hard to stay focused on the things that matter most.

The good news is that there are several things you can do to assess how you manage and maximize your time so you can get more done in less time and achieve your business goals more quickly.

The High-Income Founder 15-Minute Productivity Assessment

On average, during an eight-hour work day, people are only spending four hours and 12 minutes of their day actually working. During my time as a financial advisor for a well-known financial firm back in the day, one of the most impactful exercises I ever took part in was the 15-minute productivity assessment to measure how productive I really was in a day.

So over the course of a few days, I took notes every 15 minutes to see what I was working on. Was I doing work or was I returning an email? Was I working or was I scrolling through social media? Was I being productive with my time or was I chatting about the weekend with my co-workers?

I tracked my entire work day like this and it was eye-opening, but it was also an essential first step in making changes to productivity throughout the day.

I challenge all founders to take two days out of their week to take this assessment. Here is how it works:

  1. Download the Awoye Capital High-Income Founders 15-Minute Assessment log.

  2. Plan two consecutive days during your week where you can set a timer and measure what you accomplish every 15 minutes of your day.

  3. At the end of each 15 minutes take a few notes on what you were working on at that time (i.e. were you calling prospects for potential business or were you scrolling through Instagram?). For example, from 8:00 AM to 8:15 AM many founders may be looking at and returning emails for the day. So in your assessment log, you would write down returned seven emails that required my reply.

  4. BONUS: I want to hear how it went! Comment {here link to LinkedIn Post} and tell me what you found you spent too much time doing and where you can be more efficient with your time.

Productivity Tips For High-Income Founders

Now that you know how you're spending your time, you can start to make some changes. Here are a few tips to help you improve your time management skills:

  • Prioritize your tasks. Not all tasks are created equal. Some tasks are more important than others. Make sure you're spending your time on the tasks that will have the biggest impact on your business.

  • Delegate tasks. If you can, delegate tasks to others. This will free up your time so you can focus on the things that only you can do.

  • Set deadlines for yourself. Deadlines can help you stay on track and avoid procrastination.

  • Take breaks. It's important to take breaks throughout the day. This will help you stay refreshed and focused.

  • Avoid distractions. When you're working on a task, try to avoid distractions. This means turning off your phone, closing your email, and finding a quiet place to work.

  • Use time management tools. There are several time management tools available that can help you stay organized and on track.

Hiring a Financial Business Coach

If you're serious about improving your productivity skills, you may want to consider hiring a financial business coach.

How could a financial business coach help you with time management? Well, as the saying goes… Time is money.

A financial business coach can help you with:

  • Develop a personalized productivity plan that fits your needs and goals.

  • Identifying your business's key performance indicators (KPIs) for success.

  • Highlight primary revenue-producing activities that directly correlate to your business's bottom line.

  • They even have the ability to guide you in delegating tasks effectively and setting realistic deadlines.
